It's spring at Martha's Herbary!
Lemon
verbena is the Queen of the lemon herbs. This versatile
herb is from the Mediterranean area and thrives in heat and
sun. It's long narrow leaves are great to flavor fish,
chicken, custard or fruit salad. The tart lemon flavor
gives summer salads a nice lift.
Grow
lemon verbena in a pot or plant it directly in your
garden. This tender perennial will need to come in for
the winter, so dig it in time or transplant it to bring
inside. Don't be alarmed when, after you've brought it
in, it looses all it's leaves, leaving you with a bare twig,
dead-looking plant. Have
faith, continue to water the plant and keep in a sunny window
and in about a month, all new growth will pop out all over the
plant. At this time, trim it to shape.
